When in the Communication and Media Studies department I studied a variety of topics relating to the subject.  These classes taught me how to view media in different lights. I began my time at Saint Norbert College as a History Major and after taking Principles of Mass Communication I switched.  I loved learning about Mass Communication and how it affects people’s view of it today. After I switched my major to Communication and Media I took Writing for Media which taught me how to effectively write articles and media posts professionally.  This is when my passion for the subject took off. I took Gender and Media with Dr. Valerie Kretz and here I learned of the different perspectives of gender and how it affects the media we view today. As a result of all my studies at Saint Norbert College I plan to study at American University in the Fall 2020 in the Journalism and New Media Program for my final semester.

This subject has impacted me both professionally and personally.  When working on my campus job I managed the social media page for it.  My studies complimented my work very well and it led me to land an internship with Sarah Kathleen Events.  This is a small business in the western suburbs of Chicago. Here they let me run their social media pages and help with events because of my studies at Saint Norbert College.  Personally I find myself paying better attention to media whether it is a movie, social media, or television shows. I am currently taking Television Criticism this allows me to pay better attention to camera angles and the ambient surrounding scenes.  

After graduation I hope to work in either Washington D.C. or Chicago working in Public Relations and/or media. After working for Entertainment 2 Knight and Sarah Kathleen Events I feel I am fully equipped to work in the professional world and apply what Saint Norbert College has given me and what American University will teach me in the fall.
