COME Portfolio Self-Reflection

Being a Communication and Media Studies Minor at St. Norbert College has been a great experience that I would not trade for the world. Throughout my studies I have learned a ton of information from how to better communicate about mental health, how to communicate in crisis times and how to communicate at a micro and macro level verbally and nonverbally. I have also become proficient in research methods when it comes to the world of academic research in the Communication world. Personally, this has helped me better understand others and better myself when trying to convey important messages to the people that I call loved ones. Professionally, this has helped me become a better worker and has helped me to better understand the people that I work with and help at work each and every day. I am a communication mirror, but I have also taken classes in the media mirror as well, as I believe that both will help me in the future as I am looking forward to working in the world of politics. A big help for me in connecting my studies to the professional world have been Interning for Congressman Mike Gallagher, both on the political side with campaign work, and on the official side in constituent services. The biggest take away from my time as a communication minor at St. Norbert College is that it will help me so much in the future with my number 1 passion and my major, Political Science.
