  • This piece is demonstrating the ability to recognize different persuasive techniques that can be found in our everyday lives and in different settings. The examples that you will find within this document will demonstrate active listening, identifying meanings within the messages, and recognizing the influence that they are trying to have on people.
    • The evaluation of this scholarly article is highlighting the ability to identify the meanings that are within the article and relate them to external sources. By analyzing an article on podcasting, I was then able to create a piece of work that would reflect the past, present, and future of the platform.
    • With the annotation of a scholarly article, I am able to recognize the influence that the article is trying to portray, as well as pull out any of the hidden messages that could be found within. By giving mindful responses to the different questions that are asked, I am able to better communicate the overall message that the article is attempting to put forward.
    • The brand analysis project is one that utilized all aspects of this particular learning objective. Identifying meanings embedded in messages, recognizing the influence of messages, engaging in active listening, and enacting mindful responses to messages. This has all been demonstrated through the write-up that was done on the chosen brand of Microsoft.

  • This poster is a project that was created in order to give a history on the origins of podcasts. I was presenting to my class about this history, the current state of the platform, and finally where the future of this type of media could be heading. With this being during the COVID shutdown, I had to be able to adapt a full scale poster onto a digital venue in order to accomplish the presentation.
    • This article that I had written was to justify how I would be able to utilize the principles of intercultural communication in a military setting as it is going to be my future career path. While this is in more of a paper format, the situation called for the paper in order to explain my ideas of how it would work to the best of my ability without being able to give a presentation on the topic.
    • This is a script for a press conference that I had written in order to raise awareness for a local non-profit organization. The script is written in a format that is mainly utilized by the military, but the organization that would be conducting the press conference works directly with veterans, so it seemed fitting for the script to be read off in this particular fashion.
    • A digital media campaign was chosen in order to attempt to bring awareness to some of the local small businesses that are available for new incoming students of St. Norbert College to explore. The blog would be one where new perspective students would go to in order to get an idea of what was available to them not only directly off campus, but even places to go that could easily turn into a weekend trip with friends. This project was a stray from the normal instagram page or facebook postings that could have come about and instead was one that could be a living blog with multiple contributors.

    Research Methods https://chrisrosene.knight.domains/uncategorized/research-methods/ https://chrisrosene.knight.domains/uncategorized/research-methods/#respond Fri, 29 Apr 2022 04:16:17 +0000 https://chrisrosene.knight.domains/?p=43
  • This first research proposal was done to look at how St. Norbert College can best spread information to the student population through different outlets. This is going to go well with a social scientific research plan as we are looking at how information can be spread in the most efficient way possible.
    • This research proposal is looking at the different biases that can take place on a collegiate campus and how that is affected by bias within the media today. Looking at this critically, we are attempting to apply a survey to students across different universities in order to get a rough set of data that we can then begin to generalize to the larger population of this age demographic.
    • The research that was conducted here is strictly quantitative in nature and is looking at the different distribution of demographics within Super bowl ads. We do not have a large set of data within the matrix, but we are looking at the social scientific aspects of it and can easily continue the research on a larger scale.
    • The tetrad essay that was written on the social media platform of Tinder is a perfect example of taking a method and applying it to a modern view. The research that was done for the specific project looks toward Tinder and how it is replacing that of traditional “speed dating” in most modern societies.

A Major Reflection https://chrisrosene.knight.domains/uncategorized/a-major-reflection/ https://chrisrosene.knight.domains/uncategorized/a-major-reflection/#respond Mon, 28 Feb 2022 17:20:52 +0000 https://chrisrosene.knight.domains/?p=25 A Reflection on my Collegiate Career in the Field of Communication + Media Studies

Throughout my past 4 years of education at St. Norbert College, there have been quite a wide variety of learning experiences that I have had. Being a communication major brought with it a very interesting insight into the world that mainly goes unnoticed in our everyday lives. Through my initial classes we looked at how research is conducted on each level in order to gather data to make generalized assumptions about people that would ultimately affect the content that is produced in the media. Some of the more interesting topics to myself though would have to be the intricacies that occur when we communicate with people from other cultures and just how different they can be. In my professional career after college, I will be joining the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant and this style of communication will be crucial to my success, or failure, as an officer. This has not only changed the way that I approach certain situations, but it has made me consider going for my master’s degree in the field as well.

Outside of the classroom, I have been able to take the rough topics that I was learning about and apply it to different jobs. I am specializing in the media studies side of the communication discipline, therefore allowing me to effectively operate the Instagram page for my ROTC program. Taking the social scientific approaches to trying to produce the most effective content for what we are trying to accomplish, has not only yielded positive results, but it has also helped the class content make a little more sense as I am a very “hands on” learner. Moving forward with my career in the military, I am expecting to be able to put this degree to immediate use and see the benefits that it brings with it. Whether it is speaking with a foreign partner force, or trying to complete a recruiting assignment for the branch, the skills that have been taught to me here at St. Norbert College will be invaluable in accomplishing my task.
