The New Historical theory, however, could be focused on feminist within a specific historical context. This time, I chose to write about Chopin because I had to focus in on nineteenth century feminism specifically, not just feminism in general.

My first draft was very messy. I wrote about property, sexuality, reproductive rights, basically anything that could be considered a feminist issue. That was way too general, and I needed to focus in more.

I chose to focus specifically on sexuality for my second draft, using more quotes that were in regards to the sexual awakening and autonomy that Edna develops throughout the novel. I also was able to get rid of the history lesson that I provided at the beginning of the paper, so that I could be a little more focused on the text. This proved to be a lot easier to write, once I really knew what I wanted to write about.

I submitted my second draft, feeling so much better about my writing, and received my revision back from my professor with just a few things to expand upon in my next draft.

My final draft revolved around cleaning up, like all of my final drafts do. Another quote here, some more analysis here, clean up some language, and I was ready to go. I finished up my revision, and added it to my portfolio.

Links to Drafts

Proposal

Outline

Draft One

Professor’s Comments on Draft One

Draft Two (Tracked Changes)

Professor’s Comments On Draft Two

Draft Three (Tracked Changes)

My Writing Process When I was considering options for my Feminist paper, I didn’t want to write about The Awakening by Kate Chopin because I knew it would be relatively easy to analyze.
