In my time as a St. Norbert Student ….<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

I have learned so much about myself and the world around me through the Communication and Media Studies program here at St. Norbert College. Not only have I learned how to\u00a0focus on the ways people use messages to generate meanings within and across various contexts, cultures, channels and media, but I have also communicate meaningfully and with a purpose. When I first started this program as a freshman, I was a very shy, timid, and quiet student. I rarely raised my hand in class and worried about having to present often. Now, at the end of my college career with the help of my wonderful peers and professors in this program, I have completely changed for the better. I am much more comfortable voicing my opinions virtually or in person, asking questions, and I love<\/strong> to present projects and ideas to my peers and classmates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outside of the classroom in my three and a half years of college, I was extremely involved in the women’s social group The Canadian Cornishams. I joined this group as a freshman to make more friends and continue to serve my community through volunteering and fundraising projects that the group puts on. By my junior year, I was elected president of the group. This was a major accomplishment for me, with the Canadian Cornishams being the largest women’s social group at SNC, but also for my own personal growth. I learned how to communicate with community partners to set up events for the group, held weekly meetings, and planned social events for over 100 girls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to becoming the president of CCHAMS my junior year, I also started an internship at a local marketing firm in the Green Bay Area. Through this internship I got to work under some amazing men and women who taught me so much about the marketing and social media world. I greatly valued my time with them and will take all the lessons they taught me into my next job opportunities. After graduation, I hope to pursue a career in Marketing and Social Media for a company much like the one I interned at.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With my concentration being Media Studies, I have focused a lot on social scientific reasoning for viewing within media. These perspectives such as Cultivation theory and Social Cognitive theory have affected my work and day to day life as a consumer of media by giving me a better understanding of how messages portrayed through television and other media outlets may affect their viewers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
