Guy was way less pretentious than I thought he would be. In fact I found myself agreeing with just about every word he said. No one gets to have a monopoly on what is literature and what isn’t. Was pleasantly surprised to find out how much I enjoyed his works. Structuring the paper was not as bad as I thought either.

Reader Response https://johnhadtoleavelimerick.knight.domains/reader-response/reader-respone/ https://johnhadtoleavelimerick.knight.domains/reader-response/reader-respone/#respond Tue, 03 Sep 2013 20:25:20 +0000 http://portfolio.snc.edu/template/?p=188 Continue reading "Reader Response"]]> I loved this one. It was the first essay that I got to do back home, and as I wondered what to write about, I realized that I was sitting in the same spot that I had read Lonesome Dove in. That book had been the first thing to reignite my love of reading books in years when I read it in 2018 or so, and so it was a no brainer to write about. Jake Spoon, Gus, and Call became the focus of the book, as the three of them had a shared history with the very soul of the Wild West in ways that not even Pea Eye or Deets were able to represent. One of my favorite essays to write, and I made sure to write it in the same spot I had read the book in, sat by a nice fire.

Psychoanalytic https://johnhadtoleavelimerick.knight.domains/psychoanalytic/psychoanalytic/ https://johnhadtoleavelimerick.knight.domains/psychoanalytic/psychoanalytic/#respond Tue, 03 Sep 2013 20:23:52 +0000 http://portfolio.snc.edu/template/?p=186 Continue reading "Psychoanalytic"]]> The Last Essay.

I had dragged my feet on this essay for so long that I missed the even the extended due date to turn it in. I just couldn’t make heads or tails with it. Finally, long after it was supposed to be turned in, I resolved myself to crank out something to get a grade in. I have never liked Freud, and recent discoveries about the kind of man he was to certain women under him have made me reluctant to read about what he has to say. As I started working on it, however, I was absolutely gob-smacked to discover that not only was I enjoying analyzing my previous readings through the lens of the Id, Ego, and Superego, but that I was actually able to find examples of it! I ended up betting more satisfaction out of this essay than any of the others, even including the Reader Response. I’m happy that this is the paper that I finish the semester with.

Feminist and Gender https://johnhadtoleavelimerick.knight.domains/feminist-and-gender/feminist-and-gender/ https://johnhadtoleavelimerick.knight.domains/feminist-and-gender/feminist-and-gender/#respond Tue, 03 Sep 2013 20:20:00 +0000 http://portfolio.snc.edu/template/?p=182 Continue reading "Feminist and Gender"]]> Was actually looking forward to this one. I figured that I might be able to draw on what I learned about from last years U.S. survey of Lit class in regards to female authors and writing conventions. Found a lot of similarities between Kate Chopin’s Awakening and Hannah Webster Foster’s Coquette as cautionary tales for women who subvert the genre by giving their women characters real agency, for better or worse.

Strange book. My first paper for English 305. Took a while to really find out what kind of paper I was writing at all. Settled on highlighting the craziness of Wonderland vs the rationality of Alice. Decided to see if I could draw on the craziness of the world right now for inspiration, and maybe make a connection to the text.
