As a student of communication and media studies, I have learned to appreciate and strive for quality interactions and communication, and utilize my knowledge of critically analyzing, understanding, and crafting media to benefit myself and my future employers.\u00a0My learning has impacted me personally in the sense that I have learned how to better express myself in interpersonal interactions, particularly utilizing what I learned in my business and professional speaking course. Professionally, I am able to communicate strategically and effectively with employers and coworkers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I chose to specialize in Media Studies because I really enjoyed my Mass Communication course that I took my freshman year and was interested in pursuing what I had learned further. I engaged in both critical and social scientific research, but was most interested in and engaged with social scientific work. I feel now that I can utilize my knowledge of media in particular to help whatever company or organization I end up working for. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am very open minded when it comes to job opportunities after graduation, as of right now I have an internship over Summer 2022 with the communication department of the City of Edina. I am excited utilize what I have learned over my years as a Communication & Media Studies major at SNC and create a stepping stone for myself where I can hone in on what exactly I am passionate and interested in pursuing long-term. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
An experience outside the classroom that helped me along my path at SNC was when I was promoted to the position of Supervisor at my most recent job at Centennial Lakes Park, where I was in charge of managing a staff of 15 high school and college students. I communicated the needs and expectations of the park with the staff and and to reported to my manager how day-to-day operations were going. I also was responsible for the park\u2019s social media and advertising, and I was able to use my knowledge from the classes I had taken to strive for quality communication in all of these capacities. Another experience that shaped me outside SNC was when I studied abroad in Rome in the fall of 2021. I had to adapt very quickly in the sense that my typical communication style would no longer suffice, I had to learn the cultural norms of Italy and conduct myself in a manner that I would be able to communicate successfully in a place with a language barrier.\u00a0This experience greatly expanded my worldview. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
