I used the video game Life is Strange as a source to discuss Mental Health as seen between two characters, Max and Kate. I used the interactive storytelling heuristic as a facilitator of the communicated narrative sense-making theory. The heuristic places an emphasis on behaviors and engagement. In this game, Max notices changes in her friendships and relationships based on her engagement and behavior.

Covers learning outcomes 2 & 3

Learning outcome 2:

I created this podcast in an attempt to raise mental health awareness among adolescents and young adults who play video games. The reason I chose a video game is that it’s a form of media that is popular in today’s society and it shows my point that not all video games are about violence. Certain video games can allow people to find other people who share their interests and to form tight-knit communities. There are many playthroughs of the game on YouTube but I decided to create a podcast so people don’t have to sit down and watch the video; they can listen to it wherever they are, which is something we’re all in search of these days. My goal is to make this podcast more accessible to more people, so that they can enjoy it and learn from it.

Learning Outcome 3:

In this podcast, I anzied the interactions between Max and Kate in regards to mental health using the communicated narrative sense-making theory heuristic interactive storytelling. I focused on the interactional storytelling heuristic and tried to identify times when Max was able to practice any of the four ISM behaviors I mentioned (engagement, turn-taking, perspective-taking, coherence).

The following is my final communication theory project.
