One applicable learning outcome with this paper involves answering communication questions using appropriate research methods. As a journalism intern at the time, I thought it would be fascinating to research the internet, biases, and their effects on journalism. To do this, I had to use scholarly sources that required critical thinking and questioning. Another learning outcome that came to be had to do with critically analyzing messages. I was able to identify meanings embedded in messages both in my textbook and with other scholarly sources. The target audience was Professor Milbourn.

2. Research Project – Communication Research Methods

Research Findings

This research project was also done in April of 2020, but for my Communication Research Methods course with Dr. K. With this research project, I literally had to use research methods to answer communication questions. This required field observation as well as the analysis of scholarly sources. Going off of this, I had to be able to recognize the influence of messages portrayed in my sources and find ways to use them. The target audience was Dr. K.

3. Social Media Use Infographic – Communication Media Theory

Social Media Infographic

This infographic was completed in November of 2021 for Dr. Kretz’s Communication Media Theory course. This infographic was part of a media literacy campaign I did regarding the harms of social media for adolescents. With this piece, I answered a communication question using appropriate research methods by using the library’s database and Jstor to find scholarly articles. In addition to this outcome, I had to critically analyze messages when dealing with these articles. The target audience of this infographic was Dr. Kretz and parents of adolescents.

4. Media Criticism Paper – Intimate Relationships in Media

Media Criticism Paper

This research paper was completed in May of 2021 for Dr. Kretz’s Intimate Relationships in Media course. This was my final project for the class, which involved a media criticism paper about an intimate relationship portrayed in some sort of media. I chose to write about the 2004 film, The Notebook, analyzing its messages. To do this, I had to identify meanings embedded within messages, understand their influence, and compare these meanings to what I had learned throughout the course. The target audience was Dr. Kretz.

5. Digital Storytelling Blog – Communication Technology and Social Change

Digital Storytelling Blog

This digital storytelling blog was completed in April of 2021 for Dr. Glantz’s Communication Technology and Social Change course. With this project, I was responsible for making one blog post every day about a given topic. The goal was to tell a story, and in order to do so, I had to find information online and implement it into what I was trying to do. I used creative methods to convey my story and kept in mind my target audience, which was Dr. Glantz and my classmates.

6. Digital Storytelling Paper – Communication Technology and Social Change

Digital Storytelling Paper

This digital storytelling paper was completed in April of 2021 for Dr. Glantz’s Communication Technology and Social Change course. This was another project about digital storytelling, but this time it involved two other students who worked with me. We created a website called Green Knight Fitness that showcased the many ways St. Norbert students can live a healthy lifestyle on campus. To do this, we had to take part in communication research by conducting interviews with various staff members and students. Another learning outcome that was achieved was how we created messages that were appropriate for the audience. Our target audience for this project was Dr. Glantz.

7. T.V Pitch – Principles of Mass Communication

T.V Pitch

This T.V Pitch was completed in November of 2019 for Dr. Glantz’s Principles of Mass Communication course. This project involved the creation of a T.V show and the pitching of it to the class and Dr. Glantz. One learning outcome that came from this was how we had to create messages that were appropriate to the audience, purpose, and context. In this case, we were pitching our idea as if it was to an actual T.V network and we had to keep that in mind. As it was a comedy show, we had to make sure the content of our pitch showed humor but was still professional. The target audience were T.V networks and Dr. Glantz.

8. This paper involved writing a paper that connected students’ goals after graduation with what they had learned throughout the course. In order to do this, I had to use information from the textbook and apply it in creative ways as it was challenging to figure out connections. Beyond the textbook, I also used scholarly sources and went on to create messages that best exemplified the connections between my future plans and what we had learned. The target audience was Dr. Neulip.

1.
