Poster Project<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I completed a mass communication research project in the Spring of 2021 for Principles of Mass Communication by creating and presenting a Media Oral History poster. We explored many different mass communication topics in this course, and I chose to focus on conducting an interview via the phone with my 79 year old grandmother asking her questions about what type of media content whether it be tv shows, movies, or music\/singers were her favorites throughout a specific time period like the 50\u2019s and 60\u2019s. We had a poster session in class to show off what we had created to our classmates and professor as well as including it in SNC\u2019s Undergraduate Research Forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Family Ritual Assignment <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In Fall 0f 2022 for Family Communication I learned that family rituals are activities or behaviors that are predictably enacted by family members and that take on symbolic meaning. Rituals may be big annual events, or small and even mundane everyday practices just so long as family members attribute symbolic meaning to them. For this assignment, I chose to conduct an audio-recorded interview with my dad and talked with him about our annual hunting ritual in my family. I then wrote a reflection paper based on that interview. This family ritual reflection assignment was turned into Dr. Toni Morgan for a grade evaluation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First Generation College Student Infographic<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the Fall 2021 for Social Identity & Intergroup Communication I created this infographic based on research I conducted and found helpful advice to give first-generation students. I also addressed how the college community and staff can better support and\/or communicate with first-generation college students. This assignment required a topic that involved communicating across different social identities and I felt that being a first generation student myself, this was a topic I was really passionate about. This infographic was turned into Dr. Toni Morgan for a grade evaluation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Article Evaluation Worksheet<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Using the library databases, in the Spring of 2023 for Communication Theory I identified a research article that was  guided by my assigned communication theory (Relational Dialectics Theory). Once I chose this article I read, analyzed, summarized, and evaluated it in detail. Information gathered and placed on this worksheet was used in my theory application facilitation that I presented in class, and was also turned into Dr. Toni Morgan for a grade evaluation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Spring of 2023 for Communication Theory I was responsible for a 15-20 minute class facilitation which included a summary of the research article that I found, an applied example of RDT theory, and discussion questions relating to my theory. My theory application facilitation was presented in front of my classmates and was evaluated by Dr. Toni Morgan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Resource Intensive Hobbies Impact Families Infographic<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the Fall of 2022 for Family Communication, this infographic assignment was proposed in a way that our topic could be anything that related to family communication. It was recommended that we proposed a topic that intersects with family communication and interaction in some way but that also was of personal interest to you. A topic I thought was very interesting and personal to me was how resource intensive hobbies (hobbies requiring an investment involving a significant amount of time, money, effort and emotion) impact family dynamics. Mental Health Resource Project: Equine-assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) Brochure<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the Spring semester of 2023 for Communication and Mental Health, I worked on developing a mental health resource in the form of a brochure to help potential clients learn more information about what Equine-assisted Psychotherapy is and the scientifically proven benefits it has. The only parameters was that the resource must involve recommendations about communication and mental health that can be clearly guided by empirical communication research. The target audience I wanted my resource to attract is anyone who felt like horse assisted therapy would be beneficial for themselves or anyone they know facing challenges mentally, physically, or both. I wanted to create a brochure catering more so to people who don\u2019t fully understand what horse-assisted therapy is, or if it\u2019s even something worth looking into. This brochure was also turned into Dr. Toni Morgan for a grade evaluation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

COME Capstone Project: @punchypositivity Instagram Account<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To demonstrate my knowledge of Communication Studies theory and social scientific research, in the Spring of 2023 for Communication Theory I created an instagram account raising awareness surrounding compassionate communication and how our relationship with other people and ourselves can be affected by intrapersonal communication. I wanted to create a social media platform structured around how to talk positively to ourselves to improve our mental well-being and communication. Two theories that guided my research and project were Communicative Narrative Sense-Making Theory and  Relational Dialectics Theory. My target audience was anyone on Instagram that was interested in learning more about how to better their mental health through having self-compassion and understanding intrapersonal communication. My peers had access to this account, and a supplemental paper was turned into Dr. Toni Morgan for a grade evaluation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
