Being a student in the field of Communication and Media Studies has taught me a great deal, and this information has allowed me to grow personally and professionally. I have learned how to engage in constructive conflict, critically analyze scholarly articles, create an effective resume, and interpret messages in a variety of contexts. Being a student in this discipline has allowed me to learn more about the communication that’s everywhere, whether people realize it or not. I am better able to navigate a world that is constantly changing because of the understanding I have gained about the various forms of communication I am now more knowledgeable about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My focus in this major was on Communication. Since I was initially Pre-Law, I took two courses on Media Law (one regarding regulation and one regarding ethics), as well as a non-Communication course about the courts in the United States. My communication courses themselves were in a variety of topics that I thought were important\/interesting: conflict, business and professional speaking, mass media, media writing, and communication within organizations. Some were requirements for my major, but each class gave me more insight into the world around me. Though not a specific course, I also focused research projects on the relationships between women’s depiction in media and how women viewed themselves and other women. (The most notable of which is my Capstone.) The majority of the research I did was social scientific, though my Capstone project utilized Feminist Critical Theory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After graduation, I hope to work at a local company in Marketing or another Communication-related job. These qualifications my seem broad, but I don’t want to limit myself to one specific job title before gaining work experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It’s not just my coursework that has prepared me for this future, however. I was both the Vice President and President of the Board Game Club during my time at SNC, which allowed me to work together as a team with my fellow e-board and club members. Additionally, I worked together with Thin Place to run a campus Clue night. Finally, I worked at the Center for Global Engagement my final year, which gave me hands on experience working with various programs and organizing information.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
