My senior year, I competed a capstone project that I am most proud of. My focus was on the families who have lost a spouse, parent, or loved one and how it relates to the Communication of Narrative Sense-Making Theory. I created this website because I lost my parent at a young age and I think it is important for others to be given insight on what to expect after the loss. While I knew much about this topic, I learned a great deal of the different angles losing someone could have; for instance, how the loss affects the spouse or the extended family. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

My professor for Conflict Communication assigned a semester-long project of identifying the different conflict patterns to a target audience. My group’s target audience were families who have lost a parent and how the parent-child relationship changed because of that tragedy. While researching, I learned about parentification and how the relationship can either worsen or become stronger because of the loss of a parent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alcoholism Brochure <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This brochure is a guide for alcoholics to seek help in fighting their addiction. Our society only focuses on the negatives when someone is addicted to a substance; therefore, this brochure consists of literature reviews that try to break the stigma against them. Throughout this work, I have learned how to communicate directly to a group of people and focus on their mental health. The brochure is filled with positive information while steering away from the negatives that they hear most of the time. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Fortunately, I was an athlete on this team, so I knew the in’s and out’s of the organization. I was responsible for acknowledging the type of organization it was along with the challenges this team had faced. My image repair essay focused on the country singer Morgan Wallen. I was writing to my professor about Morgan Wallen’s negative publicity after using racist language at his home in Tennessee. I solely focused on Benoit’s Theory of Image Repair Discourse and how it related to Morgan Wallen’s incident. In this reflection, I investigated if Wallen’s public relations team did a well-enough job to maintain a positive face for the country singer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Communication Research Methods Final Paper<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the semester, I conducted communicational research with a group to identify if college students prefer online education or face – to – face learning. We wanted our research to impact professors at the college to inform them that their students did not favor online learning. In doing so, I learned the ways of conducting thorough research by investigating different literatures, interviewing and surveying different individuals, and determining a conclusion based on the results of the research. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Movie Application <\/p>\n\n\n\n

My professor assigned the class to watch the movie “Little Miss Sunshine”, which told the story about a family going to a pageant show. I identified different key aspects that I have learned throughout different chapters; such as, family goals and fault-lines, how behaviors within the family reflect the Theory of Effective Intercultural Workgroup Communication, how the family functions as a group through different characteristics, how viewers can see the bona fide group perspective within the family, and different relational ties that each member of the family have with each other. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
