Hello! My name is Lucca and I am a senior at St. Norbert College, anticipating to graduate on May 15, 2022. I will graduate with a major in Communication and Media Studies, where I have an emphasis on the study of Communication. In addition, I am very honored to receive the Communication Award, which was decided amongst all of the communication professors. As a student of Communication and Media Studies, I have gained advanced communication skills so I can prosper in life following graduation.

Throughout my time at St. Norbert College, I have learned three majors characteristics in my studies that have proved to be very beneficial in my life.

First, my time studying conflict communication was beneficial. Through this class, I learned the benefits and drawbacks of the different conflict communication styles, while having time to reflect on how I approach difficult conflictive situations. Additionally, my professor stressed the importance of addressing conflict rather than avoiding it. The professor then gave my class definitive steps regarding how to engage in these difficult situations in a constructive manner.

Secondly, I have learned how to publicly speak in a professional manner. Through this process I was able to improve my professional presence and think on my feet. This skill is very beneficial for the business world and I feel confident in my ability to demonstrate this skill.

Third, I have learned surprising facts that have changed the way I view the world around me. For example, did you know that certain colors can affect your mood? Did you know the way a room is laid out can affect how individuals view experiences? Did you know that there is not one nonverbal sign that can be communicated cross-culturally? There are so many intriguing facts that are all related to Communication and Media Studies.

Throughout my time studying Communication and Media Studies I engaged in social scientific research. These research opportunities involved observing behaviors, coding the observations, and creating a report of the findings.

Post graduation I anticipate entering a career in event planning. I enjoy being able to pay attention to details regarding events and the desires of clients.

Outside of school I have been the co-captain of the Women’s Golf Team for the past two years, I work part-time for a nonprofit called Biking for Babies, serve as a co-chair for the St. Norbert College Parish Pastoral Council, and am a member of Best Buddies.

Overall, I am grateful for my St. Norbert College education, and I am ready to enter a career in which I am able to demonstrate my skills and develop those skills further.
