Communication Research Methods - COME 180
The purpose of this project was to conduct our own research, collect samples, and provide conclusions based on our samples. This included interviewing family members, students, and friends, in order to determine the differentiation between generations and their use of technology. The target audience was different generations specifically generation Z in order for them to understand the differentiation between the consumption of technology between other generations. This was done in the Communication Research Methods course during the spring semester in 2020.
This paper consisted of my experience and reflection on participating in SONA research studies put on through my school, specifically student-run research. The purpose of this reflection was to understand the importance of research and how it plays a role in our conclusion on how we interact with others, feel, and reason within research. We were studied on our behaviors, and this reflection is in regard to what we participated in and our thoughts on the experiments. The target audience was my professor and the researchers of the studies. The course was completed in the spring of 2020.
During my Communication Research Methods class, we were instructed to critically analyze an artifact that was trending in the news. I wrote about Coronavirus as it was new and trending everywhere. I was able to determine the effects COVID-19 had on mental health and understand the importance of mental health, especially during difficult times. This paper was written for those who struggle with mental health to spread awareness that you are not alone. The target audience was my classmates, professor, and those who struggle with mental health. This was completed in the spring semester of 2020.
Interpersonal Communication - COME 122
Within my Interpersonal Communication course, we researched many different interpersonal relationships, in which I discussed the relationships supervisors and subordinates have within the workplace. I was required to analyze an article and write an abstract regarding the important findings of the article. This was completed in the fall of 2020. The target audience of this abstract is supervisors and subordinates within companies to understand nonverbal immediacy and its importance in the workplace.
Learning Outcome 2: Create Messages Appropriate to the Audience, Purpose, and Context.
Conflict Communication- COME 315
The purpose of this project was to create a piece of media that we could present to the class and distribute our findings to the general public. Our target audience was college students going into supervisory roles out of college. Our goal was to create a website that they could utilize to make sure they are being effective and efficient leaders within their jobs. This was created in the Spring of 2021. We were able to do our own research and present our findings to our classmates
Crisis Communication- COME 320
This paper was written in the Winter Semester of 2021. It is an analysis of the Youtuber Logan Paul's apology video after the backlash he received from posting an inappropriate video on YouTube. This was analyzed with Benoit's Theory of Image Repair. I was able to critically analyze his apology video and determine whether or not the strategies Paul used within Benoit's Theory were effective when he was trying to save his reputation. This was intended for the YouTube community, my professor, and classmates to determine whether we believe Logan Paul was able to successfully use Benoit's Theory and save his reputation.
Writing for Media - COME 252
During my Writing for Media class, we had the opportunity to write stories for a client of our choosing. After volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Green Bay Nonprofit I decided to write a story highlighting the work the club does for its community. I was able to use information from their website as well as my own experience in writing this story. I highlighted the importance of mental health and the inclusivity the club prioritizes. I was able to shed light on the club's mission and the programs they have set in place for their members. This was completed in the Fall of 2021 and was intended for the community of the Greater Green Bay area.
Within my Writing for Media class, we had written some press releases for companies in order to work on including the most important information within these releases. I was able to write a press release with the intention of reaching a specific audience. The goal was to reach an audience that was interested in the collaboration of two brands to create a new line of products. The intended audience was the supporters of both brands and those who are interested in helping pets. This was made in the Fall Semester of 2021.
Learning Outcome 3: Critically Analyze Messages
Gender and Media - COME 331
Within my Gender and Media Class, we were asked to analyze pieces of media that we would present in a final poster format. We had to specifically look at gender in these pieces of media. I was able to analyze 20 country songs by the top artists in September 2021. I was able to distinguish how the lyrics in these songs are stereotypical of gender and how they assume male and female gender roles. The target audience of this work is my classmates as well as country music artists and producers, in order for them to understand how these stereotypes are neither beneficial to society or contribute to the gender battles female endure. This was completed in the Fall Semester in 2021.
Writing for Media - COME 252
Also in my Writing for Media class, we worked on more News Releases, which we were able to write for our client. The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Green Bay is a nonprofit organization meaning they require money from donations and sponsors in order to continue to provide for others. This news release highlights the importance of donations and encourages people to donate. This is targeted toward the Green Bay community and people who are in a position to support kids. I was able to determine the most important information for their website to include in the release. This was made in the Fall Semester of 2021.
Health Communication -COME
Within my Health Communication Class, we were asked to analyze a campaign of our choosing. I analyzed the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services campaign about COVID-19. This included information regarding vaccines and how to protect oneself from the spread of the virus. This campaign is targeted toward nurses, and those seeking information about vaccines. They focused on African Americans, Health Care Workers, Asian Americans, the elderly, and frontline workers. This paper was written in the Spring Semester of 2021.
Emotional/ Well-Being Communication - COME 389
During the Spring Semester of 2021 in my Emotional/ Well-Being Communication course, we were asked to create a resource for a specific audience that highlights our empirical research on a topic regarding Communication and Emotional Well-Being. I had decided to do research on how to deal with anxiety and depression in college. This topic is important to me as someone who also struggles with this. I was able to do research and look gather information from articles to develop what I think to be tips and tricks for dealing with anxiety and depression in college. This is specifically for college students as they adjust to a new life and surroundings.
Principals of Mass Communication - COME 124
In one of my first classes as a communication and media student, I was tasked with doing research of my own. I was able to research Public Relations Media Specialists and draw conclusions about the career. This is something I wish to pursue in the sports-related field and was able to identify the key components of the job. This was created in the Spring of 2020. The target audience being my classmates, professor, and anyone looking to pursue a career in PR.
