Self-Reflection

Being a student of communications and media studies takes time and dedication. When going through the courses, I realized that learning about communications and media studies is really learning the coursework that blends mass communication with social sciences and humanities. Being a communications major I have learned how to create messages, understand my audience, learned different technologies and platforms, and gained great knowledge of communication theories. I am very confident that I will be able to use the new skills and knowledge that I have developed throughout my life and career. I have already learned so much about myself and my relationships just based on courses I have taken and will continue to learn more about myself and my relationships. Being a communications major has also helped me professionally because I know how to build trust, strengthen relationships, and form a sense of belonging. I am also great at being a teammate and doing group work which will help me when I get into the sales industry. My concentration was in communications and I specialized in social scientific research. I am interested in getting into sales, specifically solar sales. I’ve wanted to get into sales because I can’t see myself sitting in the office all day, everyday. I’ve also been an athlete my entire life which has taught me how to be a good teammate. When it comes to sales, the customer and myself are teammates. Some experiences outside of the classroom that have helped me learn along the way would be undergraduate research. I had to do a project for communication theories that consisted of writing five blogs. My five blogs laid a foundation on what solar sales is and how to be successful in the industry. I had to do extensive research in order to explain solar sales and what it takes to be successful, but I really enjoyed this project because I am interested in becoming a solar salesman.
