Being a student of Communication studies means I have studied the theories, principles, and practices of human communication across various contexts, including interpersonal, organizational, intercultural, and mass communication. As a student with a Communication minor, I have learned how people use communication to create meaning, build relationships, negotiate power, and influence others. I have explored different forms of communication, such as verbal and nonverbal communication, written, digital communication, and social media communication. I have also learned about the history and evolution of communication technologies and media, as well as the role communication has in shaping cultural, social, and political systems through empirical research and lectures. Being a Communications student I have developed critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze and evaluate different communication messages and practices. Over my three years at SNC, studying Communication has helped me to become a more effective communicator in my personal and professional life. Post graduation I am interested in becoming a licensed therapist, specializing in Equine-assisted Psychotherapy. Communication is a fundamental part of the therapeutic process, as therapy relies on effective communication between the therapist and client. The area of study I chose for my minor so far has provided me with a strong foundation for developing communication skills and understanding communication patterns which will be beneficial for my future career in therapy.
