My name is Noah James. I am a junior at St. Norbert College majoring in business administration in marketing and minoring in communication.
Being a communication minor has been a great experience for me so far here at SNC. I have learned a lot throughout my three years here as a student of communication. I have taken multiple different classes here at SNC. Communication studies has prepared me well for my future in the business world. I have learned the skills of how to communicate with different people in my life. Learning about communications has impacted me personally because these classes have bettered my skills and have helped me to communicate with those around me. This semester, I just got an internship with Northwestern Mutual. Learning about communication has helped me to start to grow my business as an intern. Being able to communicate effectively is essential to become successful in the insurance field.
My concentration in my minor here at SNC is strictly in communication. At the completion of my junior year, I will have completed 24 out of 28 credits needed for the communication studies minor. So far, the classes that I have taken include: principles of mass communication, interpersonal communication, communication research methods, family communication, communication theory, and conflict communication. Principles of mass communication helped me to develop the skills that I needed for my marketing major. The other classes that I have taken have given me a better understanding of the different types of communication and many different theories that go along with them. Throughout my communication classes here at SNC I have participated in social scientific research in many instances. I am currently working on researching male roommate conflict in my conflict communication class.
After graduation, I am interested in turning my current internship into a full-time job. My internship at Northwestern Mutual allows me to engage in different forms of communication with my clients as well as my coworkers. My marketing background will allow me to be able to market myself using the communication that I have learned in order to get my name out into the world and become a successful financial advisor. While this internship has helped me learn along the way, I also participate in track here at SNC. Being a part of the track team has taught me how to lead and how to communicate with others on my team in an effective way.
