Conflict Module– COME 315
The goal for this project was to create a module that displayed techniques for dealing with conflict. Our audience was the SNC campus. Group members and I created a message through video that was able to present the conflict techniques in an interesting way. We aimed to influence our viewers to participate in constructive conflict.
Modified Artifact Essay– COME 324
In our Persuasion class, our final project was to modify an artifact. With the help of my group members, we modified Colin Kaepernick’s Nike video advertisement into that of a similar advertisement honoring military personnel and first responders. We engaged in communication inquiry by applying concepts we learned into our final paper.
Health Campaign Essay– COME 327
In Health Communication, group members and I created a skin cancer awareness campaign. We engaged in communication inquiry by creating a target audience and applying theories we learned in class to our campaign.
Gender and Media Portfolio– COME 331
I critically analyzed the television show Scandal’s main character, Olivia Pope, by using the sex role perspective, a theory I learned from my Gender and Media course. After analyzing 20 episodes, I used the method of blogging to report my findings.
Portfolio Poster– COME 331
I created a research poster that was concluded from my gender and media portfolio (mentioned above). My poster centered around the sex role perspective, in which my goal was to educate my audience of how Olivia Pope defies stereotypes that women are typically confined to.
Tetrad Essay– COME 384
Through this essay, I applied Marshall McLuhan’s tetrad of media effects to Natural Cycles, a popular pregnancy/period tracker. I engaged in communication inquiry by being able to apply this theory to a modern app and similar ones, as well as critically analyzing the app’s influence on its users.
Blog– COME 384
I was given free will for this assignment to create a blog on anything that interested in me. I chose to blog about food, more specifically what I had for lunch every day. I was able to adapt to writing every day, and creating messages that were appropriate for my audience. Although I was writing for an audience, but goal was to give myself insight into my eating habits.
Image and Sound Essay– COME 467
The goal of this essay was to analyze a scene out of a television show or movie. I chose to critically analyze a dramatic scene out of Scandal. I applied terms learned in my Television Criticism course. More specifically, I discussed the use of framing and diegetic and non-diegetic sound and its contribution to the scene.
Final TV Crit Paper— COME 467
For this essay, I was assigned to choose a television show or movie and critically analyze using a lens or theory. I chose to analyze the award-winning film Moonlight using the lens Hegemonic Masculinity and how the main character challenged it.
Dissemination Project— COME 352
The purpose of this dissemination project was to create a piece of communication designed to distribute scientific knowledge about media effects to a lay audience. I chose to look at the effects Instagram has on body image and my audience was girls and women ages 13-30.
