Self Reflection
I knew communication was going to be a major that I would carry throughout my college experience and my job, but most importantly would benefit me as an individual. Being a Communication major, with an emphasis in Media Studies, has showed me the importance of listening to both messages towards me and messages around me. I have been able to succeed in my internship at Thornberry Creek at Oneida as a marketing and social media intern because I understand the most successful ways to communicate to target audiences while understanding different cultures and how they communicate.
I have conducted my own research and study on Instagram selfie-posting and young women’s body dissatisfaction: investigating the role of self esteem and need for popularity. With my emphasis in Media Studies this has helped me see the effect social media has on young women’s body satisfaction. I loved putting research together and finding the most convenient way to stay organized and succeed with the study. By knowing what appeals to audiences and what is seen with a negative connotation, will help me bring new products in a positive light. Most importantly, taking classes in how we communicate will prepare me for after graduation and being able to successfully communicate between internal and external customers and clients.
After graduation, I have accepted a job as a New Product Coordinator at Milwaukee Tool. I am excited to apply what I have learned throughout my time at St. Norbert College in my job and use the tools to create a successful future for myself.
