IRPP Paper – Communication Research Methods

This project I did in the course Communication Research Methods allowed me to answer communication questions using appropriate research methods. For this class, we had to participate in 3 credits of research studies. These research studies relied on both critical and social scientific methods. In this paper, I describe each study I participated in and what I learned from each study about myself and about research. This was created in the spring of 2019 and the target audience for this paper was my professor.

A Critical Analysis of the Ted Bundy Tapes – Communication Research Methods

This project I did in the course Communication Research Methods allowed me to critically analyze Netflix’s series “Conversations with a Killed: The Ted Bundy Tapes.” This was a group project where we analyzed the messages and themes that were portrayed throughout the show such as lighting, sounds, and music. We immersed ourselves in critical research for this project. This project was created in the spring of 2019 and the target audience was our professor and classmates.

Annotated Bibliography – Communication Theory

This paper I wrote in the course Communication Theory allowed me to critically analyze and answer communication questions using appropriate research methods. For this annotated bibliography, I found eight scholarly sources and created a summary of each article that included a summary of what the article was looking to research, a summary of the method used, and a summary of the results. Critical research was used for this paper. This paper was written in the spring of 2022 and the target audience was my professor.

Observational Notes in Starbucks – Nonverbal Communication

These notes I took for a project in Nonverbal Communication allowed me to critically analyze messages as well as answer communication questions using appropriate research methods. For these notes, I had to go to Starbucks for three hours and observe people’s nonverbal behavior. Specifically, my group wanted to observe how certain age groups act while ordering and waiting for their beverages/food items. This project was done in the fall of 2021 and the target audience was my professor.

Grey’s Anatomy AbstractPrinciples of Mass Communication

This abstract I wrote in the course Principles of Mass Communication allowed me to critically analyze messages and create messages appropriate to the audience, purpose, and context. For this abstract, I had to analyze an article that discussed interracial relationships on the TV show Grey’s Anatomy. This project was done in the fall of 2019 and the target audience was my professor.

Theory Application – Communication Theory

This application assignment I created in the course Communication Theory allowed me to critically analyze messages, create messages, appropriate to the audience, purpose and context, and answer communication questions using appropriate research methods. For this project, I found a scholarly article that studied Communication Accommodation Theory in relation to cancer patients perceptions on the “survivor” label. This project was done in the spring of 2021 and the target audience was my classmates and my professor.

Roommate Conflict Project – Conflict Communication

This project I created in the course Conflict Communication allowed me to answer communication questions using appropriate research methods and critically analyze messages. For this project, I worked with a classmate to create an Instagram geared toward college students that provided advice in regard to roommate conflict. This project was done in the spring of 2021 and the target audience was college students.

Capstone Project – Communication Theory

This project I created in the course Communication Theory allowed me to answer communication questions using appropriate research methods, critically analyze messages, and create messages appropriate to the audience, purpose, and context. For this project, I created and Instagram page to help graduating college students navigate post-graduation life. This page is filled with advice for college graduates. This project was done in the spring of 2022 and the target audience was college graduates.
