Introduction

 
To me, being a Communication and Media student is about becoming informed with the world around you, and learning how best to interact with it. Through my time at St. Norbert, my eyes were opened up to how things work behind the scenes in the media, what drives business and corporation’s media enterprises, and how different communities and demographics exist in these spaces.

This has helped me to become a better listener to voices I would never have thought to seek out, become more critical of the media I consume, and fundamentally changed how my relationships to both the media I have grown up on as well as new media that I have discovered. The areas of discipline that I have specialized in would be the classes in which I was able to analyze different media artifacts and write about them using the terms and theories I had learned about in my classes. This means that my concentration would be in Media. The classes I was most able to do this in would have been Gender and Media, Mass Communication Theory, and Television Criticism, engaging in social scientific research such as the Spiral of Silence Theories as well as critical perspectives such as Hegemonic Masculinity.

After Graduation I am interested in pursuing a 1 year graduate program in Ireland pursuing an MA in Media Studies. My job on campus as an assistant in the Center for Global Affairs has also helped broaden my skills, as I am tasked with running the social media pages for the International students.
