Physical, Emotional, and Mental Effects of APEX Legends Gameplay (Learning Outcome 1)

This paper was written in February 2020 for my Media Effects course. I observed an individual playing APEX, a video game for the Xbox. I kept note of his behavior throughout gameplay, and then wrote about my findings utilizing asocial scientific approach My research was done by watching him and doing a writeup of his physical, emotional, and mental responses while engaging in gameplay in my paper. The audience for my paper was my professor, Dr. Kretz.

A Look into Media from the Korean DMZ During the Vietnam War (Learning Outcomes 2 & 3)

I created a trifold presentation in May 2019 for my Mass Communication course. I conducted an interview with my grandfather, who is a veteran of the Vietnam War, and discussed his experience with media and advertisement while he was stationed in the Korean DMZ. I interviewed him over the phone, collected data, and compiled it into a trifold with my findings for my final presentation. The target audience for this project was Dr. Kretz and my classmates, as we all went around the classroom and looked at one another’s projects and talked about them.

Evaluation of a Scholarly Article (Learning Outcome 1)

This paper was written in March 2019 for my Mass Communication course. I selected an article on the study of the impact of media representation of pregnancy on pregnant women. My examination of the article relied on critical research methods. I looked at the methodology, limitations, evidence, and usefulness of the article. The target audience for this paper was my professor, Dr. Kretz.

TED Dissemination Project Video + Paper (Learning Outcomes 2 & 3)

This project was created in May 2020 as a group project for my Media Effects course. This project explored the history of TED talks, along with the effects and dissemination of TED talks, and discussed the target audience. This project was composed of a 11 minute video presentation, along with a reflection paper. The target audience for the video was officially for my professor, Dr. Kretz, but as noted in the reflection paper, the overall intended audience for the video ranged from highschoolers, college students, professors, and those working in academia. 

Boundary Waters Persuasive Speech (Learning Outcome 2)

I presented this speech in December 2021 for my Business & Professional Speaking course. I made a slideshow to go along with my general outline and gave a 10 minute persuasive presentation about the threat of mining in the Boundary Waters in Minnesota. I provided evidence to my audience to take action against mining, and ended the presentation with a QR code to scan and sign a petition. The target audience for this speech was my professor and classmates, taking into account that many of my classmates were from Wisconsin, so I made sure to cater my information to informing the audience about the importance of the Boundary Waters to the state of Minnesota and the midwest in general.

Too Hot to Handle Analysis (Learning Outcome 1)

I wrote this paper in May 2020 for my Research Methods course. I watched a popular Netflix show called Too Hot to Handle and did a critical analysis of the dynamics of the contestants. I examined the modes of persuasion, humor, language devices, and audience impact of the show. I utilized a social scientific perspective in looking at the show, and how hookup culture affected the way the contestants interacted. The intended audience for this paper was my professor, Dr. K.

Final Image Analysis Assignment (Learning Outcomes 2 & 3)

This analysis was done in November 2021 for my Visual Communication course. I analyzed a poster for the movie US, and explain in depth what the visual components of the image portrayed in the poster convey to an audience, as well as how it tied in to aspects of the movie. The goal with this paper was to explain and explore the image’s message to the viewer. I utilized my knowledge of meaning with color, imagery, and font learned throughout the semester to discuss the image. The intended audience for this analysis was my professor, Dr. Palmieri. (Study Abroad Professor), and the rest of my classmates when we went around the classroom and discussed and presented our assignments

Political Communication Final Paper (Learning Outcome 3)

This paper was written in December 2020 for my Political Communication course. I analyzed Joe Biden’s Democratic presidential candidate nomination acceptance speech, and the strategies that were used to make the message of his speech effective. I did this by watching the speech many times and giving examples of the 6 strategies of a successful political speech that we learned about in our class. The intended audience for this paper was my professor, Dr. Glantz.

Media Conglomerate Paper (Learning Outcome 1)

This paper was written in February 2019 for my Mass Communication course. I researched and wrote about the media conglomerate Disney. I used critical research methods to discuss Disney’s history, expansion, acquisitions, public perception, and provided my opinion on conglomeration. The intended audience for this paper was my professor, Dr. Kretz and the rest of my classmates.
