Over the course of these last four years of being a communications and media studies major, I have made many close connections with both faculty and students and am very grateful to say I am part of the department. Over these last 4 years, I have learned more about my personal communication skills and how to apply or recognize them in the real world. By taking this major I have grown in confidence in my skills and know-how to use them in the correct way. My concentration was in communication and as a double major in sociology, I tend to lean toward social scientific research as there is a lot of overlap there, specifically looking at gender and stereotypes.
After graduation, I will be pursuing a career in a non-profit, or something in sports, maybe even a non-profit that deals with sports. I was able to learn my love of working for a non-profit foundation during my internship this past semester. Where I go to intern for one of my favorite non-profits The Pinky Swear Foundation, I learned a lot about the in and outs of being a community fundraiser and working for a non-profit. I wouldn’t have been able to take this opportunity if it wasn’t for this major. I am very grateful for everything I have learned and look forward to taking it into the real world and professional life.
