Down below, you will be seeing some evidences of the learning curriculum I went through during my four years at SNC. Aside from just having the pieces posted, I will also be discussing each in short detail regarding their content and purposes.
This first piece is the capstone piece for my senior year of school. In it, I looked at the effects that sports broadcasting – as well as its history and innovations – have had on societal progress through the lenses of CTI and CAT. The audience, which would be just about anyone who enjoys sports, would see the magnitude of these features, and could see the methods of research giving way to a credibility of the findings.
This artifact is a group paper written in the spring of sophomore year, looking at the effects of digital storytelling through the medium of a blog. By creating an environment where questions could be asked and answered with the input of others within the community, this project assisted in providing a framework of future learning.
This artifact, a video alongside an explanatory paper, is a discussion on how baseball is a strange sport, and was primarily used as a persuasive piece as a final project for a class. In this, a narrative was set out, one that would set out a premise of analysis in the specifics of how it works, which is the primary focus of the accompanying paper.
The next piece of evidence follows the same formatting of a video and an accompanying paper, this time in the second main field of personal interest, video games. In this video, once more as the purpose of a video, it would go into the conflicts undertaken by a few characters in a video game, with the paper and video both outlining the messages and how discussions upon mental health can be explored through the medium of games. Once more, the paper goes more into depth about the specifics of critical analysis, but the video still provides a framework of learning.
Following in the footsteps of a video game paper, the next piece of evidence is one of the first papers written during my experience as a communication major. In this, I looked at the game Stardew Valley by Eric “ConcernedApe” Barrone, and showed a somewhat heartwarming story of how something as simple as the work of a single person can help affect the media world at large. Through this, it was able to introduce people perhaps unfamiliar with video games to the medium and some of the effects that it can have.
This next piece is another final project, this time in a family communication class. This took the form an infographic, alongside a subsequent paper that went more in depth on the thoughts behind it. The infographic was regarding intergenerational communication, and how it provides benefits to health as well as has managed to keep a mostly dead language alive and spoken by online communities.
The final piece is the research paper from the end of the Political Communication class in Fall of 2022. In this, I discussed several ads that served the purpose of being polarizing, and how polarization in the political field has shown effectiveness.
