Formative Experiences

During my junior and senior years of my undergraduate studies at St. Norbert College, I conducted independent research on the family’s role in romantic relationships by examining what the process of introducing a new romantic partner to one’s family entailed, what the relational implications of such an introduction were, and how culture can be an influencing factor on expectations surrounding romantic relationships. This experience has influenced my interest in a career as a marriage and family therapist because I believe that, in order to help others to the best of your ability, it is important to be committed to lifelong learning and to remain informed about the current developments within the field. Having a strong foundation in academia is something I hope to continue to apply in an increasingly modern and diverse world in order to provide high-quality, research-driven, and tailored services to the everyday experiences of those I am working with.

I was able to present my research at the Central States Communication Association (CSCA) Conference in March of 2023, where I received the President’s Undergraduate Honors Research Conference Top Paper Award! This event was easily one of the most influential experiences from my undergraduate years, as I was able to hone my professional speaking skills and network with some of the top scholars in the field.

In addition to my research, my involvement with writing for the newspaper during my collegiate years and fostering a passion for creative writing growing up has helped me hone my writing skills as a key strength across a variety of different areas in my life. I was able to assume a leadership position my sophomore year by becoming the Features Editor, which has allowed me to explore the dynamic interplay between creative and academic writing and to apply these abilities to the classroom setting as well.
