Being a Communication and Media Studies major at Saint Norbert College has opened many doors for me and helped me learn about many different topics. From gender representation in media, problems with copyrighting and journalism to maintaining relationships, communication in the healthcare system, professionally addressing crises and decreasing levels of anxiety when public speaking, I can say I have received a well-rounded education. My advisor, along with other professors in this division, truly want their students to succeed not just scholastically but in our values and goals as well.
In addition to these helpful skills and areas of thought, I had the opportunity to take classes outside of the Communication department like Chemistry, Biology, Psychology, Education and Spanish. Although these classes differed from the realm of Communication and Media Studies, I found several connections between many concepts which surprised me and only confirmed that communication is relevant in all areas of study and life in general.
A Communication and Media studies degree is useful in so many careers and gives a wide array of options for those who choose to pursue it. Though my current plan is to continue my education to study Speech-Language Pathology, my Communication and Media Studies degree has help shaped me to be who I am today and introduced me to many different sects within communication that I will take with me upon graduating from St. Norbert College.
