My concentration focused on Media Studies. Throughout the course of my time at St. Norbert College I have taken Media Psychology with Dr. Kretz, Communication Technology and Social Change with Dr. Glantz, Communication Research Methods with Dr. Smith, Interpersonal Communication with Dr. Antos, and Social Identity and Intergroup Communication with Dr. Morgan. These are just a few of the communication/media courses I have taken. Throughout the courses I have taken I have focused on multiple SONA studies and have collected some of my own data this semester by working on my capstone project by doing a replication study on how music affects one’s mood.
Post graduation I would be interested in pursuing a career in advertising or marketing. When people ask what my dream job is I tell them, “to get a job” because, if I’m being honest, I don’t know what I want to do yet. At least not right out of college anyway. Once I gain more skills I would be ecstatic if I was able to work behind the scenes on HGTV. Whether this be shooting behind the camera or putting clips together, I would love to be immersed in this world. I am a huge fan of HGTV and home renovation shows and working in this field would be the icing on the top of the cake.
I had the privilege of interning at De Pere Christian Outreach (DPCO) this past fall 2022. I was their first ever intern, which was a privilege in itself. I helped market their store and bridge the gap between DPCO and St. Norbert. The store manager, Amy Murphy, had a great idea to do mini pop up shops inside of Ruth’s Marketplace where students had the opportunity to buy items from the store itself. There was additional information about the store and ways students could get involved to volunteer. It was a very rewarding experience. I also was able to work with the elderly and hear about their life stories and it was amazing to see how they communicated back in the day, to how the majority of communication takes place today.
