I loved this one. It was the first essay that I got to do back home, and as I wondered what to write about, I realized that I was sitting in the same spot that I had read Lonesome Dove in. That book had been the first thing to reignite my love of reading books in years when I read it in 2018 or so, and so it was a no brainer to write about. Jake Spoon, Gus, and Call became the focus of the book, as the three of them had a shared history with the very soul of the Wild West in ways that not even Pea Eye or Deets were able to represent. One of my favorite essays to write, and I made sure to write it in the same spot I had read the book in, sat by a nice fire.
