In this IRB approved original research project, I was able to find the motivations and engagement behaviors of Instagram activism. This project was for Mass Communication Theory and appeals to an audience of Instagram users. Research was completed in Fall 2021.
St. Norbert College's Research Participation System allows for students to explore independent research, theories, and collect data. This paper is a reflection on my experience participating in campus studies and how my involvement helped further develop my knowledge of research. While my contribution to research has taken place throughout my college career, this was written for Communication Research Methods.
This infographic targets people with social anxiety with Covid-19 restrictions being lifted. My research helped me identify, interpret, evaluate, apply, and take part in communication research. Additionally, I was able to convey this information in a creative and appropriate way. Research was completed for Communication and Emotional Well-Being in Spring 2021.
For one of my senior Capstone's, I completed a content analysis on MTV's 'Jersey Shore'. I examined the show with the lens of Hegemonic Masculinity. I dissected Hegemonic Masculinity and it's key components which led to interesting findings.
I took Family Communication in Fall 2021 where I learned about different dynamics and structures within familial systems. Working with a group, I was able to research and present to my class about voluntary kin, or chosen family.
Family Communication allowed me many opportunities to research and create messages appropriate to audiences. This infographic targeted new college students and how to set healthy boundaries with their families when transitioning to school.
In a course taught by a News Reporter, I learned how to properly write for media. I am now able to accomplish communicative goals by adapting to needs of a situation. This was a hypothetical news story written for SNC students regarding tuition.
This paper is a reflection of 'Master of None' and how it is better representation for POC. Through critical analysis of this show, I realized how race impacts on and off screen production in film and television.
Through a critical analysis of Comedy Central's 'Broad City', I was able to discover gendered traits and how the show rejects stereotypical gender norms. I am able to identify meanings embedded and messages through active listening and enact mindful responses to messages. This was created for Gender and Media in Fall 2020.
In Communication, Technology, & Social Change, I was able to recognize the influence of messages, including on television through the critical analysis of 'Black Mirror'. I found the parallels between their fictitious world full of consequences from technology and ours.
McLuhan is a communication scholar, famous for his book 'The Medium is the Massage". For this assignment, I analyzed his use of photography, negative space, and the placement of text to fully analyze his message.
