Highlighted projects from my four years:
Tetrad Analysis– For the Tetrad Analysis assignment in my Communication and Technology and Social Change class, we had to select a modern piece of media and analyze it using Marshall McLuhan’s Tetrad of media effects. The modern media that I selected was Tinder, and in this essay, I highlighted what the app enhances, retrieves, reverses, and makes obsolete. The target audience for this essay is users of online dating apps or social media.
Black Mirror Essay– As an assignment for my Communication Technology and Social Change class, we had to watch an episode of black mirror and do an analysis of our chosen episode. The episode I chose was “Nosedive”, and I wrote about how the themes in the episode are not too far off from what we can expect in the future with the rise of social media. The intended audience for this assignment was my professor.
Family Communication Infographic– I took the class Family Communication at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, which influenced me to create my final project on the impacts that low-income families dealt with during COVID-19. I created an infographic that highlighted the struggles and challenges that have impacted the physical and mental health of families during this time. The intended audience for this is parents/families.
Dissemination Project Video- For my conflict communication class, I chose to highlight roommate conflicts, specifically how they differ between genders, in my semester-long dissemination project. Overall, this project was really fun and rewarding to put together. Prior to this video, I had never created a project in this format, and it really pushed me to veer outside my comfort zone and taught me a lot about interviewing, video editing, graphic design, speaking pace, and research, as well. The intended audience for this project is college students and young adults that may be learning to live with roommates for the first time.
Presentation of Qualification- In my Business and Professional Speaking class, our first “big” speech of the semester was our Presentation of Qualification assignment. For this assignment, we had to pick a job posting of our interest and give a 6-7 minute speech describing why we would be a perfect candidate for the job. For the presentation, I chose to talk about a brand marketing internship position. I created and used a simple outline, which allowed me to speak extemporaneously and more naturally throughout my speech. I found this presentation to be especially helpful because it allowed me to reflect on all of my personal skills and experiences that make me unique to employers. The intended audience for this speech is future employers.
Influencer Culture Infographic- For the final project in my Social Identity and Intergroup Communication class, we had to create a project based around an area of identity. For my project, I chose to research the impacts that influencer culture has on young girls and women. My intended target audience for this was women and girls that use social media. With this in mind, I created an infographic that highlighted the main concerns that revolve around women and media, including mental health, and self-esteem.
Dissemination Podcast- In my Media Psychology class, our end-of-the-semester project was a dissemination project on the topic of our choosing, in the format of our choosing. I chose to do my project on media persuasion, and how influencers and companies use persuasion for their personal gain. The target audience for this project was teenagers and young adults, as they are the age demographic most susceptible to influencer marketing, and media persuasion. I created a podcast for this project because I thought that it could be easily accessed by my intended audience, and to challenge myself to use podcast equipment for the first time.
