Believe it or not, I did learn a thing or two at college.
For undergrad, I attended St. Norbert College located in De Pere, Wisconsin. It’s an adorably quaint little area found in the pocket of Wisconsin. What’s truly admirable about the area is the community. You almost have to be there to understand the supportive atmosphere that gives St. Norbert College a small town feel. I’ve been showered in nothing but blessings with my time there, having the rare opportunity to learn from some of the finest and most notably intelligent professors who are recognized not only by me for their intellectual gifts, but by the academic community as a whole.
It seems like I’m just buttering up my professors and St. Norbert College, but I promise you this is no propaganda and I’m not getting paid to say these wonderful things (I wish I was).
Little bit about me, I chose to double major in my time at St. Norbert. I started as an English Major with an emphasis on Creative Writing, but feared it wouldn’t be enough for all I wanted to accomplish. I also felt like there was something missing. My major wasn’t involving my love for media and I knew that needed to change. I added on the second major of Communication & Media Studies with an emphasis in Media in addition to my minor in French. I wanted to make my time there worth as much as possible by getting everything out of my experience there. As I state in my bio at the bottom of my home page, I have always strived to become the strongest communicator possible across all platforms. This takes the form of written communication (English Major), oral communication (Communication Major), and online communication (Media Major).
This provided me with the unique experience to work on my analytical skills 3x over. This portfolio reflects back on four years worth of work in dissecting literature, critical literary theory, communicative tendencies, speech, interpersonal communication theory, mass communication theory, sociology, psychology, gender and media, race/ethnicity and media, communication technology and social change, and capping it all off with television criticism (my favorite one of all). Exploring the intricacies of videography and cinematography allowed me to engrain myself further into my preferred field of study. I have run my own freelance side business of media-related work since high school and have previous work in website design, social media management, graphic creation, video creation, and advertising. I’ve become well-versed in systems like InDesign, Adobe Creative Suite, WeVideo, Apple-based Applications, etc. I aim to further pursue my dream of working in video production and am excited to share this medium as proof of my research.
