Connection.
It was in this class that I learned the recipe for what truly binds us together.
It was how I learned why some relationships stick and other don’t.
I could make sense of what emotional intimacy meant and how important it was in establishing relationships with peers, coworkers, friends, family, partners.
What makes these bonds everlasting, what drives us to continue conversation, what peddles the wheels of real connection is narrative.
Sharing a story, your story.
One on one.
When we divulge our stories to one another we share an experience, we share a connection.
What keeps us moving full speed ahead along the relational continuum is this survival instinct for storytelling.
Interpersonal communication is the one on one connection that we form on the more intimate level. It’s the binding glue that we examine between us. It is the substance among humans that keep us talking, keep us connecting, keep us sharing. Without it, we are just souls wandering a lonely earth.
