Deconstructing Cinematography in Marvel’s Black Panther
an essay exploring the impact of image and sound in action films
Black Panther has won several awards for its exceptional cinematography. In my essay, I delve into what makes the film so great and how you can deduce the underlying tones for yourself in an action film. Action films are always accredited for being “action-packed” when truthfully, they are packed with references to social movements and stigmas in just the lighting itself. Progressive New Age Feminism in Bob’s Burgers
Tina as a feminist icon in the hit sitcom
Bobs Burgers is a beloved American television series/sitcom that provides a dry, awkward sense of humor that tends to appeal to the taste of several Americans. What makes Bobs Burgers so outlandish is the children in the show. Bob himself represents the stereotypical heterosexual man and experiences typical old-age male insecurities. His children, however, experience new-age pressures in a way that Bob cannot relate. Tina especially presents herself as a 5th wave feminist icon in television. She portrays a more modern representation of the everyday woman. Television is hesitant to ever associate a female character with stereotypical male traits and emotions. However, this show blows gender norms out of the water and provides a wholesome comedic effect without ingraining toxic gender stereotypes. Read more on my critique below:
