While building the understanding of how small groups function, an additional assignment in Small Groups Communication (COME 222) was to put together a symposium with group members on a similar subject to educate the class on an interesting topic. The goal was to create a Symposium that was entertaining and effective. My group selected “Inspirational Books,” and I chose to talk about Lord Alfred Tennyson’s In Memoriam and how his poems could be applied to the five stages of grief.

The Symposium Group Presentation Assignment was important because it created an environment in which I had to work with a group. It also gave me the experience of preparing for a professional symposium setting since the group was in charge of selecting a location at which to present.
